The Republic 84 Thunderjet and the Republic 105 Thunderchief were two of the most significant aircraft in the history of aviation. They were both designed and built by Republic Aviation, and they both played a major role in the Cold War. The Thunderjet was the first operational jet fighter in the United States Air Force, and the Thunderchief was one of the first supersonic fighters.

The Republic 84 Thunderjet was designed in the late 1940s, and it entered service in 1950. It was a single-seat, single-engine fighter-bomber that was powered by a General Electric J35 turbojet engine. The Thunderjet had a top speed of 650 mph (1,046 km/h) and a combat radius of 600 miles (965 km). It was armed with six .50 caliber machine guns and could carry up to 2,000 pounds (907 kg) of bombs or rockets.

The Thunderjet was used extensively in the Korean War, where it flew both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. It was also used in the Vietnam War, where it was used primarily as a close air support aircraft. The Thunderjet was retired from service in the early 1970s.
