Lucey's political career began in 1952 when he was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly. He served in the Assembly until 1960, when he was elected Lieutenant Governor. In 1964, Lucey was elected Governor of Wisconsin. He served three terms, from 1965 to 1971, during which time he championed a wide range of reforms aimed at improving the lives of all Wisconsinites.
